Japanese Massage has a very long history, dating back many centuries. Japanese massage is
a form of massage that was based off Chinese and other Asian Massage forms. Japanese used massage for
medicinal purposes, as did the chinese, and other asian cultures. The type of massage that the Japanese do has
its very own name, in which it is called "Shiatsu Massage".
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu Massage is a very unique type of japanese massage. Shiatsu, roughly translates to
"finder pressure, and is a form of massage where the massage therapist uses various pressure points on your body
to stimulate the muscle and muscle regions. The japanese masseuse uses their hands, palms, fingers, especially
thumbs, to apply deep pressure. Shiatsu massage is mainly used to help people cope with stress, anxiety, or to
promote an overall feeling of well being. Many people that get Japanese Massages report feeling very calm and
relaxed after receiving the Shiatsu Massage. Many asian massage parlors provide the Shiatsu method of
Massage.
Although there is no evidence of Shiatsu Massage curing any disease, it can reduce stress
levels, and through proxy, possibly reduce your risk factor for stress related illnesses and disease. Japanase
massage techniques, while coupled with other asian massage techniques, could make you feel like a whole new

can perform this type of japanese massage with clothes fully on, and traditionally, it is performed on a
mat.
There are many other forms of Japanese Massage besides Shiatsu. Another form of massage is
called "Anma Massage". Anma is a traditional japanese massage that focuses on deep tissue. A asian massage
therapist performing anma may use a kneading technique.
Japanese Massage and other Asian Massage forms
Traditional chinese medicine used massage for possible healing. There are two forms of shiatsu
massage within the Japanese massage realm. The first, focuses on western medicine, and utilized anatomy and
physiology. The second, uses more of a traditional chinese medicine form, and uses other healing types to
achieve a common goal.
